Travel: Thailand Recap

Thailand-190Thailand was such an amazing experience that writing a complete recap would take quite a while, not to mention it happened back in January (I know…bad blogger!), and with time being our most valuable commodity while traveling (and yours too), I’ve decided to spare everyone the hours of reading and put our most memorable moments and experiences of Thailand into bullet points!

  • The greatest thing about volunteering with the Mirror Foundation was meeting so many amazing people from all over the world that shared the same passion for traveling and learning about other cultures. It was great to share such memorable moments and experiences with such great people!
  • Experiencing the National Thai holiday of Children’s Day with over 2,000 hilltribe kids that walked for hours to celebrate at our event was a once in a lifetime opportunity.
  • Sleeping in a bamboo hut and having to take cold bucket showers
  • Being able to eat a plate full of Pad Thai for $1
  • The $6 per night “warm” shower accommodations at the always hospitable Boon Bundan!
  • The amazing western breakfast from the Coconut Bar in Chiang Rai every weekend for $4 after eating rice for every meal during the week!
  • Riding Elephants and Ostriches…yes, Ostriches!
  • Having the amazing opportunity to stay with a hilltribe family and live in a culture most never get to see.
  • Dollar “Toasties” from 7-Eleven!
  • Bangkok and all its greatness
  • Eating bugs
  • Using squat toilets and having to bucket flush afterwards (too much info?)
  • The White Temple, the most interesting and impressive temple in all of Thailand (personally).
  • And last but not least, the Thai people. Known as the land of smiles, the Thai people are so very welcoming and warm with visitors they make you feel like one of their own.

  2. Really awesome photos especially the one riding the ostrich! The White Temple is extremely beautiful isn’t it. Next time make sure you check out the Black House as well. If anyone else is thinking about going to Thailand, just do it!

    • The Black House was on our list, but we just didn’t make it there! We heard it was an amazing contrast to the White Temple. We will definitely have to go there if we ever make it back to beautiful Thailand. Great recommendation, Sam.
